  1. Ability to provide a range of patient/resident care and contribute to completing the nurse care plan and recovery of patients/residents.
  2. Ability to observe patients/residents’ or residents’ physical or emotional status and promptly refer deviations and problems to supervisor.
  3. Ability to properly use equipment, materials, and supplies in simple diagnostic and treatment procedures such as bladder scan, continuous passive motion device, blood glucose monitoring machine, specimen collection, etc.
  4. Communicate effectively with patients/residents, their families, and other health professionals.
  5. Ability to assist in the full range of CNA care to patients/residents with physical and behavioral problems in a hospital.
  6. Ability to communicate orally with patients/residents, families, interdisciplinary team, and other personnel

The Mental Health Worker is a nursing caregiver who functions under the direct supervision of the Registered Nurse. The Mental Health Worker provides patient care through each patient’s individualized care plan, unit standards and guidelines, and hospital policies and procedures.


  1. As directed and supervised by healthcare professionals, collects and records a variety of routine patient data to ensure the ongoing accuracy of the patient charts.
  2. As directed and supervised by healthcare professionals, they perform various basic patient care activities to provide optimal comfort and safety.
  3. Assists in the performance of a variety of related tasks and functions as needed.
  4. Identifies and reports unusual findings or observations, clinical symptoms, behaviors, and treatment administered to the appropriate healthcare professionals to ensure timely and effective intervention.

  6. Participates in various in-service programs, meetings, conferences, and daily care rounds to maintain an understanding of care plan changes, issues, and expectations.
  7. Performs a variety of activities to provide for the ongoing maintenance of the unit’s environment.
  8. Provides orientation to the unit and hospital systems and processes to patients and family members to ensure familiarity with the unit’s policies and requirements.
  9. Reviews and reinforces patient/family education of basic technical procedures, activities/safety of daily living to ensure understanding.
  10. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as requested.


  1. Bachelor’s Degree
  2. Six months of experience working in a psych program, schools, residential day treatment centers, etc.; Time spent in mental health internships will be considered.
  3. Child and Adolescent experience
  4. Training/Certification in CPI
  5. CNA/MA experience
  6. Bilingual (optional)
  7. High School Diploma, GED or equivalent
  8. BLS for Healthcare Providers, issued by the American Heart Association

Hospital Assistant I

Under indirect supervision, transports patients, lab specimens, medical supplies, & equipment within the in-patient units; assembles & maintains req equipment; & performs related duties.


  1. Transports patients by assisting or lifting individuals onto gurneys or into wheelchairs & transports to prescheduled appointments w/in acceptable time standards & safety procedures
  2. Collects & delivers medical equipment, supplies, lab specimens, & Central Processing materials as requested
  3. Establishes & maintains courteous, cooperative relations w/ patients by reassuring patients & explaining the purpose of the transport
  4. Checks oxygen tanks for leakage & level of oxygen in the tank; replaces empty tanks; & checks & requests services on departmental gurneys, wheelchairs, & oxygen carriers through Plant Services.
  5. Assists physicians, nursing personnel, & other medical professionals as needed in the care or treatment of patients
  6. Performs other related duties as needed or directed by the dept manager and seniors.
  7. Exhibits standards of competencies in the delivery of care by preparing & transporting patients to their destination in a timely, safe, & efficient manner
  8. Demonstrates competencies of all medical equipment used in transporting patients
  9. Demonstrates competencies in the use of the Automated Dispatch System (VIP, Patient Tracking System)
  10. Sets priorities according to most emergent needs on an ongoing basis
  11. Ensures patient is prepared for transportation in accordance w/ safety requirements indicated in dept policy
  12. Recognizes & clarifies inappropriate orders
  13. Routinely takes usual & special precautions relative to the age, medical history, condition of the patient, & the type of treatment being given.
  14. Calls VIP to receive assignments
  15. Obtains the following information before dispatch: patient’s name, room number, destination, isolation precautions, mode of transportation, equipment needed
  16. Documents all requests & special instructions on trip cards in a timely, legible, comprehensive, & accurate manner
  17. Observes all applicable Regional, Medical Center, & dept policies & procedures
  18. Maintains current CPR, and BLS for the Health Care Provider or equivalent program
  19. Keeps current w/ fire & safety regulations & procedures
  20. Follows Universal Body Substance Precautions & Infectious Waste protocols
  21. Completes & maintains a current annual health screening (PPD)
  22. Participates in education/orientation of other staff
  23. Accountable for all content of staff meetings/in-service presentations by attendance or reviewing minutes
  24. Exhibits standards of professional behavior to enhance the quality of service as indicated in Kaiser Permanente Quality of Service Philosophy in general professional behavior towards, & concern for, patients, members, & employees
  25. Informs members of the reason for transport & destination. Reason for delays or anticipated delays.
  26. Treats all patients in accordance w/ the Patient’s Bill of Rights.
  27. Adjust to fluctuations in workload w/in designated work hours
  28. Verifies that all equipment needs are in working order & safe for transportation
  29. Cleans & performs operator maintenance on medical equipment used in transporting patients
  30. Identifies learning needs of team members & provides instruction to increase staff effectiveness
  31. Accurately assesses strengths & development needs of employees; gives timely, specific feedback to manager


  1. At least six (6) months of experience as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or Hospital Aide in an acute care setting or equivalent
  2. Completion of one (1) academic year in an accredited nursing program that includes clinical experience
  3. High School Diploma or equivalent
  4. Maintains current CPR certification
  5. Heavy Physical demands
  6. Frequent pulling, pushing, and lifting of supplies and equipment
